OW2 Open Source Software Technology Exchange Meeting held at CVIC SE

OW2 Open Source Software Technology Exchange Meeting was held at CVIC SE in the Chinese city of Jinan. The President of OW2 Cedric Thomas paid a visit to CVIC SE with other guests from OW2 on Oct. 22nd, 2007, and made an academic report as well. Some high level managers, software experts and special guests from the local community attended the meeting.

The OW2 Consortium is the largest global open-source software community consisting of 12 strategic members including Peking University, BUAA, ISCAS, CVIC SE, BULL, INRIA and Thales.

At the exchange meeting President Cedric Thomas began his introduction of the OW2 Consortium by saying that the mission of the consortium is to develop open source middleware and to foster a vibrant community and business ecosystems. The strategic objectives of the OW2 Consortium are: establishing leadership in the middleware market at large through open source code, building an organization with the financial resources to operate autonomously and providing a platform where developers share world class open source software. Recently the OW2 Consortium has quickly gained the support of open source activists from around the world; a continuous cycle of contributions and expanding benefits has resulted in a rich business ecosystem of over 100 projects backed by more than 6,000 enthusiastic supporters.

Guillaume Sauthier and François Exertier, Engineers of the OW2 Consortium, showed what kinds of contributions can be made to OW2 projects and how to make contributions. Examples of such contributions that can be made are code, bug reports, documentation, mailing list activities and success stories. The two engineers introduced JO2nAS (Java OW2 Open Application Server), developed by CVIC SE, Peking University and objectWeb, to contribute to middleware technologies and related standards.

As the only enterprise member of the OW2 Consortium in China, CVIC SE has been dedicated to all of the consortium activities as well as joining the global middleware industrial chain to promote middleware original technologies and standards.
